Moderation & Safety
Moderation & Safety expands Submitt beyond tickets and applications into day-to-day Discord server protection and member management. Automatic enforcement is configured separately for each licensed server and remains disabled until an administrator turns it on.
Start with event logging, Auto Role, welcome messages and Timeout-based spam protection. Watch your moderation cases for a few days, tune thresholds and exemptions, then enable stricter Kick or Ban actions only where they make sense for your community.
Moderation and Discord logs
Choose a moderation-action log channel for warnings, timeouts, kicks, bans, automated filter actions and raid alerts. A separate Discord-event log can record message deletes/edits, member joins/leaves/bans, nickname/role/timeout changes, channel/role changes and optional voice join/leave/move activity.
Staff moderation commands
Remove a member from the server and record the reason as a moderation case.
Ban a member and record the moderator, target and reason.
Unban by Discord user ID and retain the action in moderation history.
Temporarily restrict a member or remove an existing timeout.
Create warnings, inspect active warning history and clear warnings while preserving the audit trail.
Bulk-delete a controlled number of recent messages from the current channel.
Temporarily ban a user when the Temporary Bans module is enabled.
Start or restore an emergency lockdown when the Lockdown module is enabled.
Complete New-Member Quarantine after the configured minimum wait.
Submit a case-linked moderation appeal while still in the server.
Discord permissions still control which staff members can execute moderation commands. Keep the Submitt bot role above the roles it needs to moderate and grant the bot the corresponding Kick Members, Ban Members, Moderate Members and Manage Messages permissions.
Anti-spam that uses multiple signals
Submitt does not rely on one blunt message counter. Each server can independently configure burst-message spam, repeated-message spam, mass mentions, Discord invite links and unapproved web links. Staff can exempt trusted roles and channels, and each rule can delete the triggering content or escalate to Warning, Timeout, Kick or Ban where supported.
- Burst spam: number of messages allowed inside a rolling time window.
- Duplicate spam: repeated matching content inside its own time window.
- Mention spam: limits excessive user/role mentions in one message.
- Invite protection: blocks Discord invite links when enabled.
- Link protection: blocks web links except domains on the server's allow list.
Name and new-account protection
The prohibited-name filter can automatically act when configured words appear in a member's Discord username, global display name or server nickname. It is checked when the member joins and again when those names change. You can also require a minimum Discord account age and automatically Kick or Ban accounts that are too new.
Discord does not provide a normal bot with a member's profile bio through the standard user object, so Submitt cannot reliably scan bios. The dashboard intentionally limits this protection to the name fields Discord actually exposes to bots rather than claiming unsupported bio scanning.
Anti-raid join alerts
Set a rolling join threshold, such as 10 members within 30 seconds. When the threshold is reached, Submitt records and posts an Auto Raid Alert while continuing to apply any configured prohibited-name and minimum-account-age protections. The raid detector intentionally alerts staff instead of blindly mass-banning every member in a join spike.
Auto Role
Enable Auto Role and choose one Discord role to assign to each new non-bot member. The Submitt bot role must sit above that role in Discord's hierarchy and must have Manage Roles permission.
Welcome and leave messages
Channel messages and direct messages are configured independently. Each can use a normal message or embed format. Available variables are {user}, {username}, {server} and {memberCount}.
- Welcome message in a chosen server channel.
- Welcome DM to the joining member.
- Leave message in a chosen server channel.
- Best-effort leave DM to the departing member; Discord may reject a DM after the member is no longer in the shared server.
Advanced moderation modules
Advanced protections are modular. The master Moderation & Safety switch must be enabled, but each module below has its own independent ON/OFF toggle and configuration in the dashboard.
Uses recent Discord audit-log attribution to detect destructive administrative bursts such as channel/role changes, mass kicks/bans and webhook changes. Trusted users and roles can be excluded. The response can strip dangerous manageable roles, kick, or ban.
Enables /lockdown and /unlockdown. Submitt saves each selected text channel's Send Messages overwrite and slowmode value, locks the channel, then restores the saved state when lockdown ends.
Counts recent offense cases inside a configurable window and can automatically progress repeat offenders from timeout to kick and ban thresholds.
Members can appeal a case with /appeal. Banned users can use the authenticated web appeal page. Staff review pending appeals in the moderation dashboard; approved ban/temp-ban appeals attempt an automatic unban.
Enables /tempban with a configurable maximum duration. Submitt stores the expiration and automatically unbans the user when the timer ends.
Adds Submitt role tiers—Helper, Moderator and Admin—on top of Discord's native command permissions. Server owners and Discord Administrators retain full access.
Detects a configurable message surge in selected text channels, temporarily enables slowmode, then restores the exact previous slowmode value after the cooldown.
Assigns a configured quarantine role on join and delays the normal Auto Role. After the minimum wait, the member uses /verify; Submitt removes quarantine and applies Auto Role.
Anti-Nuke requires Submitt to have Discord's View Audit Log permission so the bot can identify which account performed a destructive server action. Role hierarchy still limits which members or roles Submitt can remove, kick or ban.
Moderation cases
Manual and automatic actions create numbered moderation cases in the dashboard. Recent cases show the action, target, moderator or Submitt AutoMod, reason and date so server owners can review what happened without relying only on messages in a Discord log channel.
Useful exemptions
Use ignored roles for trusted moderators, integrations or special staff groups and ignored channels for areas where normal filter thresholds do not make sense. Administrators and members with relevant moderation permissions are also exempted from automatic message filters.
Updating Submitt does not automatically turn moderation on for an existing server. The master Moderation & Safety switch and individual protections must be enabled from the dashboard.
